About

IRENE COLLECTIVE is a new boundary pushing ensemble driven female focused theatre collective based in and producing in New Orleans with outreach nationwide. We aim to contribute to, and support the artistic infrastructure of the New Orleans culture and community, while lifting up underrepresented voices. Our upcoming production is A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE by Tennessee Williams - a classic American drama interpreted distinctly from the female gaze. Through our work, we aim to blend raw performances, music and cinematic influences - continually exploring what theatre can be and what it means to be a woman artist in the American South.

The ensemble is named after producing pioneer Irene Mayer O’Selznick - the daughter of Louis B. Mayer (founder of MGM) and wife of David O Selznick. She was one of the first leading Broadway producers, and was responsible for bringing A Streetcar Named Desire to the Broadway stage.
