Current Project: An Evening of Walden
As I transition from performing to a career dedicated to directing and choreographing, I need to do an evening of choreography to share with the musical theatre world my range and abilities. In a one hour presentation, I will be sharing pieces from musicals and concerts I have choreographed for that best represent me as a choreographer as well as moments from All is Full of Love and RAW, 2 pieces made possible through previous fiscal sponsorships through Fractured Atlas.
The Company’s Mission:
Josh Walden Dance Theatre was born of the experiences Walden had choreographing his first ballet, “All is Full of Love,” in the spring of 2003. A contemporary interpretation of the classic “On the Town,” the ballet was a seminal work in that it allowed for the marriage of America’s classic legacy of expression through dance with the realities of today’s culture and society. Walden quickly discovered there lies great potential and value in taking the theatricality and traditions of musical theatre to another level by emphasizing the power of one element: movement.
Building on the foundation laid by such visionaries as Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire, Josh Walden Dance Theatre strives to marry this discipline and style with contemporary themes and music to tell new stories and reinvent those which are familiar. Walden also desires coupling the technical skills of dancing with the tools of the acting world to create a highly charged theatrical setting while exploring the power of being still. Though the heart and soul of Josh Walden Dance Theatre is dance and movement-related, other forms of theatre will be examined.
