NOVA Women's Choral Collective is a project-based choral ensemble for women in Athens, GA, built on the belief that serious, joyful music-making should fit the rhythms of real life. We offer high-quality choral experiences outside the traditional year-round model — giving singers the freedom to participate in the projects that speak to them, on a timeline that works for them.
Our mission is to cultivate a rigorous, joyful, and inclusive choral community where women's voices are centered, celebrated, and heard. We pursue that mission through diverse performance projects unified by a commitment to highlighting treble voices, thoughtful programming, and a collaborative rehearsal process that respects singers' time and expertise. Each project is shaped by the music, the community, and the moment — and no two will look exactly alike.
NOVA is also deeply committed to expanding the canon of women's choral repertoire through the commissioning of new works, ensuring that the music we sing reflects the breadth and depth of women's artistic voices. We believe that relevance in choral music is expansive — encompassing social reflection, memory, place, beauty, and wonder — and that collective singing can deepen connection, foster understanding, and strengthen the cultural life of the communities we serve. Athens, with its rich tradition of artistic experimentation and community engagement, is the ideal home for this work.
Our 2026 debut performance, Anne Frank: A Living Voice, sets the tone for everything NOVA hopes to be. This powerful, community-centered work for chorus and string quartet draws on Anne Frank's diary to create an experience that is as historically resonant as it is musically compelling. We are assembling a roster of 35–40 women and partnering with local community organizations to build a production that Athens has not seen before.
NOVA is led by Founding Artistic Director Jennifer Kane, a conductor and choral educator with decades of experience building ensembles that balance high artistic standards with warmth, accessibility, and joy. Jennifer founded NOVA out of a deep conviction that women's choral music deserves a dedicated, serious, and sustainable home — and that Athens is exactly the right place to build it.
We are new, but we are not starting from scratch. NOVA draws on years of relationships, artistic experience, and community trust. We are building carefully, intentionally, and with great excitement. Your support makes it possible.2A48E5B5-29AE-4303-9FF2-549231257552_1_201_a.jpeg4.93 MB
