Sprague, a documentary film
In 1865, while Richmond, VA was burning from a brutal war, eight year-old Frank Sprague had just lost his mother and was about to be taken to his Aunt Ann in North Adams, MA, whom he had never met. This was a turning point for the young man’s journey. Little did he know he would witness the construction of the historic Hoosac Tunnel, graduate from Annapolis Naval Academy, work with Thomas Edison, and ultimately start his own successful enterprise. He overcame odds and gained inspiration in the most unlikely places. ultimately, finding his way to Richmond, VA at the right place and right time.
And that is only HALF our story...
Our story parallels the life of this young inventor with the painful reconstruction of Richmond, Va and the growing pains that exude in each. Ultimately, these two stories will intersect in 1888 to make history by installing the first successful electric streetcar system in the world. It had been tried before, but this technology developed in Richmond set the precedent for what is still in existence around the world today.
We are producing a feature length documentary about this amazing story. Over the next several months we will be continuing our filming and editing to take us to completion by Spring of 2020.
