The Funkentine Rapture is a bold, over-the-top funk fable set in a magically gritty and vibrant Harlem in 1977. Drawing inspiration from the sound, spirit, and cultural impact of artists such as Bootsy Collins, Sly Stone, and George Clinton, the musical celebrates funk as both musical revolution and social expression. Originally developed at TheatreWorks Palo Alto and selected for the National Alliance for Musical Theatre’s Festival of New Musicals, the work continues to evolve through readings and workshops as it prepares for its next phase of development.
