The Bronx is a diverse part of New York City with a rich artistic history that this gal from Kalamazoo wants to nourish by developing unionized productions. We have schools for the performing arts in the Bronx that are producing top-notch talent. We even have Open-Hydrant, a theater company in Soundview producing theater with young players being given equity contracts. With vibrant post-secondary institutions, the Bronx is keeping and attracting youth. Is it time to entertain these young professionals by growing Off-Broadway seasons here? Will our theater create opportunities for shows by adult players with adult audiences in mind? The Kalamazoo Regional Theater will begin the 2021-2022 season with the development of Two Princes. SYNOPSIS of Two Princes: Once upon a time, in a kingdom not too far away, lived two brothers-- Frederick, the “Charming Prince” and Marik, the “Lazy Prince”-- products of how the “story” has always been; conditioned to being a certain way (“for some reason”). But when Frederick must get married and become king (for some reason), Marik takes it upon himself to help him. Alongside their TOTALLY platonic royal retainers, Sir Barry and Miss Sheila, they go on a journey that leads them to the realization that being a hero is much more than “getting the girl.”
